Valve Lifters

Pioneer Inc. Automotive Products

One of the engine's most precise components, Pioneer Performance valve lifters are manufactured to O.E. specifications to ensure proper lifter operation, and have outside diameters precision ground within .0005. The reason: A valve lifter must function under high loads for extended periods of time and within a temperature range of -40°F to +300°F, all with little or no maintenance.

Valve lifters have a spherical radius on the camface to ensure lifter rotation. Quality valve lifters virtually never wear out -- but they do "wear in." In other words, the slightly convex face and surface of the cam it rides on will develop a distinctive mating wear pattern. For this reason, it is important to replace new lifters whenever installing a new or reground cam.

Depending on valve train design, we recommend one of these types of Pioneer Performance valve lifters:

Mechanical Lifter- Used for pre-1960 automotive engine applications and now used in a variety of high-performance valve trains. Mechanical lifters require periodic adjustment to compensate for valve train wear.

Standard Hydraulic Lifter- Used since the mid-1950's, this design effectively maintains constant lash-free, metal-to-metal contact throughout the valve train and does not require periodic adjustment.

High-performance (Anti-Pump Up) Hydraulic Lifters - This type of valve lifter operates effectively at high engine speeds and provides quiet, efficient operation for normal driving.
