for his new 409 Chevrolet. He immediately found a demand for this header
from other racers in the area. It was not long before Gary had hired
employees and was operating out of a small building in South Ontario,
CA. In 1965, however, a fire wiped out most of his factory. The forced
move was a turning point. Hooker Headers was relocated to a new building
on Brooks Street in Ontario. With the additional room, Gary Hooker
was able to put some production ideas to work and he was soon out-producing
the competition. An advantage that Hooker has maintained over its competition is the wide range of products offered. Hooker maintains thousands of different part numbers. While it may be possible to fit 2 or 3 car models with one part number, a difference in design might be needed to allow optimum performance. Hooker will design that header. "What we want," says Dave Spangler of Hooker, "is the very best possible product as opposed to one that only does an adequate job." In recent years stepped-style headers have become very popular with many header manufacturers. Hooker has been developing headers using this technology since 1968. It's no wonder that Hooker headers has gained a major share of the high quality header market with its Super Competition and Competition brands of headers. Hooker is also addressing the 50-state street legal emission compatible header market with many applications for late model domestic cars, trucks, SUVs and import sport compacts.
